I'd like you to remember how you felt the last time you looked at your cellphone and saw the battery was dying. It is a pain, right?

Now imagine, instead of simply plugging your cellphone into an outlet to charge it, you had to walk for miles, maybe even take a taxi, pay a large fee, and wait for hours, maybe days, just to recharge the battery. Well, that more than just a pain, it's a debilitating problem, and it's a daily reality for hundreds of millions of cellphone users in sub-Saharan Africa, where cellphone use is pervasive but electrical infrastructure is severely lacking. Batterade had a gridless, affordable, socially responsible solution.

Founded in 2013 after the founders placed 2nd in the annual UNM Technology Business Plan Competition, winning $10,000, Batterade, LLC is a start-up with strong ties to New Mexico, particularly the University of New Mexico (UNM).

We're currently developing our product's underlying technology, which we are optioning from UNM.STC, with our business plan winnings, as well as a grant from the New Mexico Small Business Assistance Program. After finalizing the prototype, we plan to travel to Kenya to conduct customer validation before beginning to manufacture and sell our product.
